866 was in-service from circa 1988 to circa 2013 and described as a pumper/tanker and later a engine/tender when MABAS came to the county. 866 was normally the second out engine and filled the role of initial water supply to the attack engine.

The unit's role in the 2000's:

Structure fire in hydranted areas, 866 would arrive and park near the attack engine (863 or 864). A 3-inch supply line would be established via one or two double donut rolls which were kept in the driver's side, second, upper cabinet. These double donut rolls allowed a member to unroll the hose and have both couplings in hand when establishing the supply. The unit also carried 3-inch supply line in the hose bed that could be used for supply.

Structure fires in non-hydranted areas (rural areas), the attack engine would forward lay a supply line from the roadway to the fire. The end of the supply line would have a siamese connection. 866 would arrive and use their double donut rolls to establish a supply into the siamese of the supply line. While 866 would provide a nursing supply to the attack engine, members would remove and set-up the portable water tank and other equipment needed for drafting operations. Once the water tank was empty, 866 would leave the scene, fill at the nearest hydrant, and begin tanker shuttling operations.

Vehicle Accidents: Second out engine following 864.

Severe Weather Staging Area: 17th Avenue and Falls

On an interesting note, 866 was built with 2 tank to pump valves. This was done to allow the pump to supply water with less limitations during nursing operations.

866 also had three dump chutes to off load water quickly into portable folding water tanks. One was located in the rear of the vehicle and the remaining two were located one per side in the rear, lower compartment on each side. An extension was also available that was stored on the rear tailboard.
